This is encouraging to see. Not that Bishop Iker is ill, of course, but that Bishop Mayer is calling for folks to pray for Bishop Iker. What would be strange about that, you might ask?
Bishop Iker and the Diocese of Ft. Worth left the Episcopal Church a few years ago, and the diocese that Bishop Mayer presides over is the ‘replacement’ diocese. The court battles there continue and both sides would have every right to ignore or dislike the other side, but Bishop Mayer is witnessing to something greater. If we are not willing to pray for those who disagree with us, we are in a bad place indeed.
